Announcing PYDS in November
We are thrilled to announce that our next Positive Youth Development Series will take place November 2-20 in partnership with The Academy Project and LA Animal Services! We are looking for dedicated volunteers who will work alongside student handlers and their shelter dog partners, providing support and mentorship throughout the three-week program in Lincoln Heights.

Summer Program Kicks Off
Our first Positive Youth Development Series of 2026 has officially kicked off! For three weeks, youth from under-resourced communities are paired one-on-one with at-risk shelter dogs, working alongside trained adult mentors to build real-life skills while preparing these dogs for lives in their forever homes.

Meet Peggy!
Our first Positive Youth Development Series of the year kicks off on July 13th, and we couldn't be more excited!
For the first time, our student handlers will be heading directly to North Central Shelter for the program. These kids love dogs so much that they are choosing to spend three weeks of their summer training them, building their confidence, and helping prepare them for life outside the kennel. That's dedication!

Running for Kids and Dogs
We’re kicking off 2026 with two programs, and we can’t wait to share them with our K9YA family! First up, our Positive Enrichment Series begins March 16. This program is special because it gives shelter dogs something they don’t get nearly enough of in a busy shelter environment: consistent connection, enrichment, and positive training time with structured interaction designed to help them build skills and confidence.
And it truly makes a difference! After our most recent Positive Enrichment Series, four program dogs were adopted right after graduation. Moments like that are why we do this work.

Happpy New Year from K9YA!
The start of a new year gives us the opportunity to reflect on what we’ve built together and to carry that energy forward. This past year, your support helped create countless moments of growth, connection, and progress for both youth and shelter dogs. That’s why it feels especially meaningful to share that all K9YA dogs are out of the shelter! Fourteen lives changed in the last two months alone, and a powerful reflection of what this community can do together. Here's to changing even more lives in 2026!
